Legal Assistant

Reports to: Principal Lawyer / Director
Employment Type: Initially part-time or school hours, but may become full-time for the right candidate

Position Summary
The ideal candidate will ensure smooth running of the office and effective case management by providing legal services under the supervision of the Principal Lawyer. This individual will communicate frequently with the clients in order to serve them adequately. Additionally, this candidate will conduct necessary case research to aid the legal proceedings.

Our office is based in Williamstown, with the offer of some remote working or flexibility in hours available.

Responsibilities
·       Provide administrative support to 2-3 lawyers / consultants
·       Handle communication with clients
·       Collating litigation documents
·       Locate and develop case relevant information
·       Booking flights and accommodation
·       General administrative tasks
·       Invoicing (using LEAP and Xero)
·       Exceptional skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint

Minimum Qualifications
·       Experience in legal assistance for a private practice law firm or legal team
·       Familiarity with law, legal procedures, and protocols

Experience will be considered as a bonus
·       Xero and general bookkeeping experience
·       LEAP experience
·       Experience in VCAT and Supreme Court litigation

Solicitor / Legal Consultant

Reports to: Principal Lawyer / Director
Employment Type: Casual to begin or one day a week with the possibility of more

Position Summary
Spectrum Lawyers is looking for a Junior to Mid Construction Solicitor to join our team. We predominately deal with residential construction matters in Victoria. We also have some matters in NSW and South Australia. Whilst we do both front-end (drafting of contracts), the majority of our work is back-end (construction disputes).

The position is designed for a solicitor who has some experience in construction disputes and are interested in expanding their experience. This includes preparation of Magistrates Court, Supreme Court and VCAT dispute resolution of construction dispute matters, including:

  • Drafting pleadings
  • Drafting witness statements
  • Facilitating with engagement of experts
  • Collating evidence and Tribunal Books
  • Filing and service of documents
  • Undertaking legal research and collating information on specific issues
  • Drafting advice on merits of case

Key Selection Criteria 

  • Knowledge of residential construction law in Victoria (bonus if candidate has experience in NSW and SA too)
  • Strong ability to undertake research
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both as an effective team member but also autonomously
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to work well under pressure if required
  • A drive for excellence and professionali
  • Able to uphold ethical standards and values, and to act with integrity and confidentiality
  • Empathetic, cooperative and team focused
  • Competent in technology (Microsoft Office)
  • Must be set up to work from home or at our Williamstown office

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible for admission to the legal profession as an Australian lawyer (or eligibility for one)
  • 2+ years’ residential construction law experience
